Welcome to the ATM Seminar website
Since 1997 the Federal Aviation Administration and the EUROCONTROL have jointly organized an international seminar series for air traffic management research and development. These conferences are held biannually, alternating between Europe and the USA, and have become the top event for ATM researchers.
The ATM R&D Seminars are particularly important in view of the need to agree and develop solutions that are globally relevant, encompassing SESAR, NextGen and other international programmes. They create and reinforce relationships between leading experts and researchers in the ATM R&D community, showcase research results and encourage discussion and consensus on major issues.
There have so far been ten USA-Europe ATM R&D Seminars and the resulting archive of approximately 750 peer-reviewed papers and presentations, available through this web site, represents one of the most valuable and widely-used records of ATM research available.
Air Traffic Management (ATM) is defined in the ICAO ATM Global Concept document as "the dynamic, integrated management of air traffic and airspace - safely, economically, and efficiently - through the provision of facilities and seamless services in collaboration with all parties". ATM therefore encompasses airspace organization and management, flow and capacity management and en-route, terminal and airport air traffic control.
After completion of another successful seminar, the United States Federal Aviation Administration and the EUROCONTROL Organization will jointly organize the Eleventh USA/Europe Seminar on ATM R&D in Lisbon, Portugal in June 2015.
